2 of my girlfriends just had their babies.
one of them had hers a month ago. her birth plan consisted of pushing and pushing and pushing sans the epidural. 12 hours later and still 5cm dilated, she still refused the epidural offer, insisting she is going to have her baby the old-fashioned way - with labor pains that will make you a mom pull rank to her sons/daughters in the future ("sus, sa grabe nako na pag antos sa pag-ugot ugot aron ka lang matawo..."). but because her baby loved her womb so much she wanted to stay and grow inside, they eventually decided to cut her open. thank god she agreed - coz she would have had a vaginal and rectal prolapse if she insisted of having her way. she gave birth to a 10lb baby!
the other one - God bless her - is brave only because she did not have much of a financial choice. yes healthcare is free in Canada - only if you are a resident / canadian citizen. although she already married her Canadian husband, she got pregnant so fast her papers are still buried underneath Canadian beaurocrats. so her birth plan was to give birth on her bed, in her bedroom, with midwives - pushing and pushing and definitely without the pain drugs and the comfort of a hospital to feel secure thinking the OR ready in case something unexpected happens. thank god she only spent about 2 hours pushing - she lacerated (we visited her 3 days later and i felt her pain - she was crouching and grabbing hold of furnitures while she was walking around her apartment) because her baby IS a half white baby (translation - big) while and she is a skinny, slender pinay.
i am amazed at what these women did.
now my regards to my friend in the phils whom i heard was pregnant too.... Ms. J...congrats and wish you all the best in that pregnancy...
