i dont intend to hurt anyone from this post. nor i am discriminating against my own people. but something has got to be said about those who intend to come to Canada to work on chicken farms.
in the last couple of years i have seen and heard of some kagay-anons who have called my dad to ask for opinion regarding working in a chicken farm. although my dad does not work in the chicken farm, through experience in the canadian workplace my dad had been totally honest about what the working conditions may be like, he had also described possible challenging situations that should be taken into consideration. these conditions include the: the weather, the remoteness of these farm, possible depression from homesickness, and etc.
i dont know if it is sheer determination to get opportunities to work abroad, but despite these warnings, a lot of people have decided to take on that huge loans to fund their exodus to canada as chicken farm workers. and as soon as they get here, they make rash decisions that create huge problems for themselves. some of them left (and indeed plan to leave) after a day citing that working conditions are so-called "inhuman". they go to different cities that are more remote with no social support whatsoever and with no proper credentials to work legally.
first of all, work in canada in NEVER easy despite what a majority of people think. for example, a canadian nurse may only have 5 patient to take care of (compared to 20:1 ratio in the philippines) but we do everything. that 5 patients come with a lot of legal and ethical responsibilities. we think about giving the best care possible so that we avoid lawsuits from overbearing family members - and thats a huge lot to think about. we think of how to be politically correct everyday especially when we are dealing with ethically sensitive situations. we dont have nursing students to do our bidding for free. most of the time we do not have family members who automatically take on the primary role of caregivers - WE ARE MOSTLY THEIR CAREGIVER AND THEIR FAMILY'S THINK WE ARE AT THEIR BECK AND CALL. so how is this related to the topic???
when you come here to work as a chicken farm worker, or a caregiver, or what not then be true to your word. DO NOT JEOPARDIZE YOUR FUTURE. when i hear stories about people leaving after a day or a week i sometimes think its fraudulent - like they were scheming in the first place to get in here then leave. yes i understand you were once executives or high powered individual from where you come from but YOU SHOULD KNOW VERY WELL WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO and not come up with so many excuses and spewing legal terminologies (e.g. inhuman working condition, etc...) and expect your fellow countrymen to help you when you are in trouble. think of how many thousands of pesos you borrowed just to come here while leaving your family. WHATEVER YOU MIGHT BE, WORK WILL NEVER BE EASY.
see, the canadians/establishments are not the bad guys here. they DO recognize a hard-worker when they see one and they DO properly give credit when and where its due. as long as you work hard to deserve it. its not slavery - its just the reality of the situation. know your rights and fight for it, LEAVING WILL ONLY worsen our reputation as a people. and i have already heard of comments from other people about it and it sucks.
so before you take on that job to come here to do what you signed-on to do, think long and hard what you are getting into.
easy for me to say? NO NOT REALLY. coz i have worked hard to get to where i am. and i am still paying for it. MONEY DOES NNOT GROW IN TREES HERE IN NORTH AMERICA. and trust me i have my share of "racism" experiences - but it only makes you stronger and determined to fight it off with knowledge.
comments welcome...
